Misconceived Beliefs

misconceived beliefs

Am I a feminist? I’ll leave that question for you to answer.  I think I have as much testosterone as any other man.The concept of feminism is one that many misunderstand, from ignorance, from generations of misconceived beliefs from their forefathers. To begin with no am not a feminist says the girl you sit next to in class, but in reality she really is, for she wishes once she graduates she will have the same opportunities as her brother. I was inspired to write this blog from a song called “Glow Up” by Karun. Karun is an up coming artist, discovered by Empawa 100. I have to admit I’ve had this song on replay for the last few weeks, it just really is my vibe. As I played it over and over about twenty or more times I came to realize the words in it were quite meaningful. As someone who has grown up in a household with many females cousins, sisters and aunts, I came to your realize and felt like this was a topic that “neeeeded” to be talked about. As a man using my voice to give back to those who raised me is the least I can do. “Women Empowerment”, hmmm… well as you maybe are wondering, couldn’t I have chosen a different title? well no! Simply just no, I chose it because it is the right one needed to offend the cultural and generational oppression’s on women that still exist today, but that’s a whole different topic for another blog. Many female friends of mine that I’ve talked to wouldn’t write about such a topic in fear of being discriminated by the society as a feminist, well, that just goes to show how many people don’t know the actual definition of feminism. Feminism is the belief that women should be allowed the same rights, power, opportunities as men, and be treated in the same way, as defined in the Cambridge English dictionary. While I was listening to “Glow Up” by Karun, this was my interpretation of the song. She says, “say now put me on your level”, I interpreted it as her calling out all man to be treated equal. She continues to say, “I’ve realized the secret to my worth”. Us men, we understand how much our sisters, mothers and wives are worth to us but we don’t put  it into action. We men need to put women first and reverse psychology they will do the same thing and all mankind will be equal. She continues to say, ”only we can save us,sister love forever”. I feel like we men should continue to empower women, as society still tends to undermine and deny women rights. Yet we easily forget who brings us into the world. This month put into your schedule to show how much you love a female, your girlfriend, mother, sister, Aunt, colleague whoever. Yes we love our own moms but shouldn’t we love all.

GLOW UP!
